Yum, Food!

Crazy Good Bakery

Shannon legitimately can’t stop eating the almond croissants from this place despite the fact that they’re as big as her face. Christine - the main baker - is making the pies for the wedding, but they have all sorts of other breakfast goodies here, too, including some savory options like the egg-bagel sandwich (Lenny’s favorite order).

Bert’s Cafe

Simple diner food that the locals line up for out the door. Get the blueberry pancake. It’s as big as your head and you won’t regret it. We can’t speak for anything else here, but do we need to?

Sprout’s Natural Food Cafe

Grab a sandwich to go, or sit on their lovely patio. Lenny is a fan of their “Ugly, Gooey, Excellent Nachos” (I mean…), and Shannon likes almost all of their yum sandwiches, including their “Real Tahoe Turkey” and their “Vegetable Crunch Melt.” If you get here early enough, they often have bagel sandwiches and an assortment of burritos as well.

Cuppa Tahoe OR Revive Coffee & Wine

Both of these coffee joints are much more than mere coffee joints. We found Cuppa Tahoe while we were looking for a bookstore… it’s both!

Revive, apart from winning a diversity of restaurant awards, has awesome coffee, delicious food, a solid ambiance, and wine (if you need to double fist it).

Gastromaniac Homemade Pasta & Pizza

We found this place on a snowy day in November, and it made the evening even more magical. They have a simple menu and aren’t open the entire day, but the handmade noodles are worth the trip. You choose a noodle style, then a sauce. We were big fans of the mafaldine with the meat bolognese sauce. Yum! Their pizzas are quite good, too.

Base Camp Pizza Co.

Shannon and Lenny disagree on this one (uh oh). But Shannon’s in charge of this page, so guess what? It’s going on the list! Base Camp Pizza has solid pizza in a good location for a decent price. Their 4.5 star rate on Yelp (out of almost 5,000 reviews) is impressive. Don’t forget to order a Root Beer.

Edgewood Restaurant ($$$)

If you’re interested in having a special dinner while you’re in town, you might look into Edgewood Restaurant, if for no other reason than the truly stunning views. Everything is good here, though you might try the Lamb Chop if you’re here for dinner or the chicken & waffles if you’re dining earlier.

Himmel Haus

We ordered “To-Go” from this German themed sit down restaurant (classic Pandemic move) and were not disappointed. We had the Sauerbraten, Spatzle, and piping hot Caramel Apple Streusel. When we picked the food up, the inside of the restaurant looked particularly cute and they appeared to have 1 million beers on tap. 1 million. Steins everywhere. Everywhere.

MacDuff’s Pub

A friendly place with a nice outdoor patio. Chicken Pot Pie? Yes, please!! Shepherd’s Pie?! You betcha. How about the best french onion soup you’ve ever had in your life? (Sidenote: Their clam chowder bowls match the soup bowls that BOTH Lenny & Shannon had in their homes growing up. Fate.)

Sonny’s BBQ Shack Bar & Grill

BQQ Place of choice! Get the pulled pork, pulled chicken, or the ribs. Sonny’s also has a good selection of cocktails. (Although the BBQ is wonderful, it almost didn’t make the list for one critical error: Jalapeño Cornbread. No, sir.)

California Burger

Great burgers. Awesome sweet potato tots (yes, I said tots!!!), though the “Beer Battered Sidewinder Fries” are something to behold. Delicious ice cream shakes. There’s frequently live music outside. Shannon & Lenny like “The Honorary Texan.”
